Job Description

Reporting to the Toronto Fire Chief / General Manager of Emergency Management, the Director – OEM will provide leadership and direction in hazard and risk identification assessments and the development of comprehensive emergency plans in response to the identified risks, business continuity planning and coordination, emergency social service issue and activity coordination and the operation of the City’s emergency operations centre (EOC).

 

The Director – OEM serves as the Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) and is responsible for all aspects of compliance under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, Toronto Municipal Code and for the administration of the City of Toronto Emergency Plan.

 

The Director will provide the necessary vision and leadership to the Toronto public service in order to achieve exceptional emergency preparedness, in co-operation with internal and external stakeholders, emergency services, public and private sector partners and service providers, and other levels of government.

 

You are an experienced and capable leader who brings extensive senior level experience in all aspects of emergency and risk mitigation planning, and highly developed skills in all aspects of EOC operations. You have extensive experience in the application and implementation of the Incident Management System with demonstrated expertise in leading the various functions of an activated EOC.

 

You have excellent strategic and problem-solving skills and inspire the trust and confidence of City staff, elected officials and the residents we serve. You have significant experience as a results-oriented leader, with the demonstrated ability to effectively lead, achieve results and respond effectively under demanding and high-stress situations that demand a fast turnaround.
